FIRST STOP OF THE EXCURSION: POMPEII RUINS
Visting Pompeii excavations is the best for enthusiasts of history and for those who, at least once in their life, want to live the magic of the antique city that was entirely buried from the explosion of the Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
During the Pompeii – Herculaneum – Vesuvius shore excursion, you can visit the antique, perfectly preserved city : the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Jupiter, the famous Amphitheater and even imagining the everyday life of ancient Pompeii, inundated by the rain of ash and lapillus, thanks to the bodies that have preserved the action of the tragic moment of death.
THE LUNCH STOP: WINE TASTING
After the visit of the fascinating Pompeii ruins, we will move to the Vesuvius slopes to taste the fantastic wines of this region: Falanghina, Lacryma Christi and Coda di Volpe that will be accompanied by local cheeses and other typical products of the Campania region. When the tasting session finishes, it will be possible to admire the mount Vesuvius or the Herculaneum excavations.
OPTIONAL STOP OF THE SHORE EXCURSION: HERCULANEUM
World Heritage of Unesco, the city of Herculaneum, as Pompeii, was struck by the same tragic fate: entirely inundated by the rain of lava and lapillus during the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The excavations of the archaeological site, that were done in different times, have brought to light more or less a third of the city and have demonstrated that the population of Herculaneum didn’t escape to Naples, as some thought before, but were massed in places on the beach, hoping to save themselves via sea.
During the Naples Shore excursion Pompeii – Herculaneum – Vesuvius, you will visit the Villa dei Papiri (Villa of the Papyri), that probably belonged to Lucio Pisone Cesonino, Julius Caesar’s father-in-law. The residence is named after the 1800 papyrus scrolls found that were part of a majestic library.
OPTIONAL STOP OF THE SHORE EXCURSION: VESUVIUS
Mount Vesuvius is situated East of the city of Naples. Mighty and majestic, it is above and in contrast with the gulf of Naples characterizing, with its profile, the view of all the cities that lie below its slopes: starting from Pompeii and Herculaneum that were razed to the ground during its eruption in 79 A.D. The presence of the Vesuvius is a scenery of immense beauty that becomes one with the city of Naples.
During the Naples Shore excursion Pompeii – Herculaneum – Vesuvius you will do a suggestive excursion on foot that, after 15-20 minutes uphill, will take you to the western edge of the crater (1180 metres). The crater can be visited all year through, depending on the weather conditions. Inside there is a cavity over 300 metres deep, with a circumference of the crater rim of about 500 metres. You will be able to touch the majesty and power of nature with your hands.
